Dr. Jeff Lavell

Functional nutrition is a component of functional medicine. Functional medicine is a term that is reserved for medical doctors who opt to treat patients with a systems based approach considering the body as a whole rather than treating an individual symptom or individual faulty lab number. Practitioners who are not medical doctors practice in a similar fashion and rather than treat a specific diagnosis treat the body as a whole utilizing nutritional support and supplementation. Often this approach is very effective and patients end up seeing and feeling amazing results. There was a reason the term “Let Food Be Thy Medicine” was coined by the father of modern medicine Hippocrates who lived during 460-370 B.C.

In our office we review your lab work and utilize focused questionnaires to give us an idea where in your physiology and what systems are being negatively affected. Once we have identified areas of concern we will implement changes in diet, lifestyle and supplements to address the appropriate systems. We typically follow up in 30-60 days with a repeat of questionnaires and labs for comparison.

Best thing about functional nutrition? We don’t need to worry about your diagnosis because we are not treating your disease or condition. We are helping the physiology and systems that are not working optimal. By getting them back to running properly the body can heal itself which is what your body is designed to do.

Dr. Lavell has extensive training in this work as well as human nutrition and has completed over 370 post doctorate hours in the study of this topic. This area is one of his true passions and he’s spent a lot of time researching it to apply it in his practice for the betterment of his patients. For many years dating back to his undergraduate studies he has utilized nutrition in practical application by originally working with bodybuilders to help them get in shape for their shows and events. He has been invited to speak for post graduate training in the topic of Functional Nutrition and Whole Food Nutrition since 2010. This includes over 25 seminars throughout the country for continuing education credits for a variety of practitioners including chiropractors, naturopaths, nurses, medical doctors, acupuncturists, nutritionists and more. In addition, he has done three national webinars to many practitioners throughout the country on brain health, musculoskeletal injuries and joint health. By doing so he is excited to broaden his scope of influence to being able to help others and considers this to be a great honor.
