"The Doctor of the future will give no medicine
but will interest his patients in the care of the human
frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease."
-Thomas A. Edison (1847-1931)
Our
Chiropractic Philosophy
Chiropractic
is founded upon the principal that the body
is a self healing entity. When you cut your finger you
obviously don't think about telling it to heal, it just
happens. This ability is controlled by the nervous system.
The nervous system controls everything in your body; every
cell, tissue, organ, muscle, and even your immune system
is controlled by the nervous system!
The
nervous system is made up of your brain, spinal cord,
and all the spinal nerves that relay messages from your
brain to your body. It is this vital communication that
the doctors of Specific Family Chiropractic check to make
sure is functioning properly, and in most cases it is.
However due to any number of factors that stress your
body (environmental, internal, or dietary) you may lose
this normal communication ability. When this occurs it
is called a subluxation - a misalignment of one or more
bones of the spine causing pressure on the nerves and
causing them to function abnormally; as well as all of
the organs, muscles, and tissues controlled by that nerve.
Think of this word as the chiropractor's key word much
like cavity is to the dentist.
Subluxations
have very powerful negative effects on the body and have
been proven through scientific research to possibly cause
such things as: migraine and tension headaches, back pain,
neck pain, numbness or pain in the arms or legs, heartburn
and indigestion, allergies, asthma, or other neurological
conditions. Subluxations are most commonly caused by trauma
or repetitive stresses, and just like the previously mentioned
cavity often do not have symptoms until very late.
